ASTROBLEME

Sir Isaac Newton said force is equal to mass times acceleration
Something little traveling slowly does not hit with great force
Something little traveling swiftly hits with more concentration
And something large traveling swiftly DESTROYS of course.

Meteors and comets and asteroids tumbling as if by chance
Missing the earth and moon by many, many, many girths
But every now and then they are pulled by the gravity dance
And come in proximity to good old planet earth.

Fiery bolides through the sky its streaks and flames do waft
Exploding into fragments and fire and smoke
Comet tails left behind in space linger in our orbital path
Shooting stars and celestial fireworks with awe they do evoke

When a tumbling rock with Earth it must collide
A crater and ejecta will surely appear
A massive astrobleme that you cannot hide
Scarring the earth and provoking our deepest fear

(Noun – a scar on a planet’s surface caused by a meteorite.)
