Many in the world aspire to be a modern day Midas or Croesus
Their hearts filled with want and greed and desire and avarice
Where in lies the motivation, the root cause of this plutomania?
Is it the need for power and control and a sort of megalomania?
Or is it an overwhelming compulsion to get more stuff
In order to provide a buffer in case life becomes too rough.
Or does it come from some insecurity for which we can compensate
Or a psychic emptiness that all the wealth in the world can never sate
