Roger Hornsby of baseball fame
Used to do something with his name
When asked an autograph to sign
He would do so with a flourish fine
Many other people of considerable note
Also used paraphs whenever they wrote
The fanciest was likely Elizabeth the Queen
With drawings quite fancy, ne’er sparse or lean
Princess Diana also had the habit
But hers had a very simple gambit
She was not a Queen but merely a Princess
So her signature had to be a bit less
Ben Franklin’s name was signed with a flourish
As though proclaiming Hallelujah in a chorus
His intellect was large and so was his ego
Proclaiming his presence wherever he’d go.
But probably the most famous signature of all
At least the most famous I can recall
John Hancock’s fancy curlicue below his name
Provided him with truly an everlasting fame.
